ARA's scientific expertise is principally in the fields of airborne atmospheric science and airborne remote sensing . However, ARA has the experience and capability to carry out high quality, state-of-the-art research in almost any branch of airborne science. Some typical areas are:
  • Measurement of atmospheric parameters, including turbulence, aerosols, particles and radiation
  • Airborne air quality / air pollution measurements, including airborne gas-chromatography (with MetAir)
  • Airborne remote sensing, including micro-wave sensors, multi- and hyperspectral scanners, laser scanners
  • Spatial information and digital image processing
  • Instrumentation integration in airborne platforms, including certification
  • Aeronautical design and aircraft modification (special emphasis on composites)

In addition to the practical tasks of data acquisition, ARA also offers consulting services in the environmental sciences, particularly remote sensing and spatial information; meteorology and pollution; vegetation health, soil moisture and salinity.

ARA operates from its modern operations base at Parafield Airport, which includes hangar, workshop and office facilities.
