(a) To support the work of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung by:
(i) Ensuring that Universities and Research Organizations in Australia are made aware of the Foundation and its aims;
(ii) Offering the AvH-Stiftung a reasonably well researched general view of Australia;
(b) To attempt to balance the generosity of the AvH-Stiftung toward Australian scholars by:
(i) Supporting and informing German scholars who wish to work in Australia or are seeking contacts;
(ii) Urge the Australian Government to increase funding for reciprocal arrangements.
(c) The promotion of all forms of academic and scholarly exchange between Australia and Germany and the maintenance and extension of contact between all Alexander von Humboldt Fellows both in Australia and other countries.
Annually: A celebration of the birthday of Alexander von Humboldt on or about 14. September.
Biennially: A conference with lectures, executive report, concert and dinner is held in one of the national centres, hitherto: Melbourne University (85), Adelaide University (87), Flinders University (Adelaide) (89), University of NSW (Sydney) (91), Monash University (Melbourne) (93), Melbourne University (95), Australian Catholic University (Ballarat) (97), Australian National University (Canberra) (99), University of NSW (Sydney) (01) and University of Auckland (jointly with the NZAvHF in Auckland (2004)
Continually: A register of members and their interests is maintained as an information base to assist visiting scholars and students, as well as intending applicants for fellowships. The AAvH offers an important opportunity for former Humboldt Fellows to keep in touch, get inspirations, travel and take part in international scientific collaboration and even life-long friendships.
Successes: The
reciprocal participation of Australia in a scholarly exchange programme. In
1991 a programme was introduced by the Australian Research Council)
