The Australian
Association of von Humboldt Fellows has a number of aims:
1) The promotion of all forms of academic and scholarly
exchange between Australia and Germany and the maintenance and extension of
contact between all Alexander von Humboldt Fellows both in Australia and other
countries.
2)
to support the work of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung by:
(i) Ensuring
that Universities and Research Organizations in Australia are made aware of the
Foundation and its aims;
(ii) Offering
the AvH-Stiftung a reasonably well researched general view of Australia;
3) to attempt to balance the generosity of the AvH-Stiftung
toward Australian scholars by:
(i) Supporting
and informing German scholars who wish to work in Australia or are seeking
contacts;
(ii) Urging
the Australian Government to increase funding for reciprocal arrangements.
Structure
The association is national, with a national honorary
executive, and state and territory based representatives.
Program of
Activities
Annually:
Each state or territory conducts events annually. These include a celebration
of the birthday of Alexander von Humboldt on or about 14. September, as well as
other local events.
Biennially: A
conference with lectures, executive report, social program and dinner is held
in one of the national centres. The next planned event is in Melbourne in
September 2007.
Continually: A
register of members and their interests is maintained as an information base to
assist visiting scholars and students, as well as intending applicants for
fellowships. The AAvH offers an important opportunity for former Humboldt
Fellows to keep in touch, get inspirations, travel and take part in
international scientific collaboration and even life-long friendships.
Membership
Form
Membership is available to former or current holders of any
of the Alexander von Humboldt Association Fellowships or Awards. The membership
fee for a 2 year period is $40. For retired members the fee is $20 per 2 year
period.
New young researchers who have returned from a Humboldt
Fellowship within the last year, or are current Feodor Lynen Fellows, are
offered FREE MEMBERSHIP for the first two years. Memberships expire on the 31
December of ODD YEARS.
